Deep in the Andes and not too far from Colta, in front of the majestic Chimborazo, there is a must see: The Golden Carpet -as I personally call it- or officially known as the Paramo of Navak. Located at analtitude of around 3800 m.a.s.l. and appreciable just in your way to Riobamba, this place offers one of the must enviable views and extreme life zones.

The golden carpet is a named that emerged spontaneously after a few seconds of observation to the fields full of a special grass species, the "paja del páramo" (Stipa ichu) decorating the place while dancing at the rhythm of the wind pointing to the "taita Chimborazo". It is the Stipa species that confers the color to this mount but indeed its speedy wagging and the singing of the wind make you to stop and capture your most memorable pictures -do not forget your jacket!
